Since 20 May 2019, I’ve been scripting mods for DayZ:SA, mainly as a hobby with no motive other than to see people enjoy the content I’ve created. I’ve released a handful of popular mods, most of them being really simple concepts but have been received really well by the community, I’ve also contributed to multiple large and smaller projects along the way. I’ve helped countless of people in the DayZ Modders Discord server, mainly with scripting and Central Economy related questions. I’ve learned a lot from modding DayZ, as it was my first game that had allowed people to create new content and has a some what decent scripting language backing it. But ever since I started modding DayZ, I stopped playing the game, only time I would ever hope on was to accompany a few friends, but we would never take the game too seriously. I stopped playing because the game just wasn’t enjoyable anymore, it felt repetitive, and with all the amazing mods on the workshop, there was nothing to keep retention. This eventually reflected on my passion to mod the game, as I felt like the frustration of modding didn’t have much reward, as I could never find myself to want to play the game again. So this is the end of the road, I will be parting from DayZ modding entirely, and will not continue further development of my unfinished and published mods, with a handful of exceptions in terms of existing help on projects that are not of my own.

The Future

I’ve already got my eyes set on another game to mod, as it uses a language I am much more comfortable with, and the game itself is pretty bare bones so that modders can create what ever they want in terms of a game. The game is called S&Box developed by FacePunch Studios, it’s practically GMod 2.0, but not limited by HalfLife. This game is going to be a very popular platform for modders to show off their creativity, as language and gameplay limitations won’t be in the way as much.

I’ve made a lot of friends along the way while modding DayZ, and will most likely be bringing them along the way into adventuring into new games to mod, or in developing games of our own. We have a passion for game development and design, so I think it’s definitely a good group to surround myself with. I’d love to shoot for the stars with this group and aim for something bigger than modding, but we all have to start somewhere.

For those who are going to continue with modding or playing DayZ, I do wish the best for your experience, Adam Franců is an amazing person, and he should have a decent vision for the future of the game. Hopefully one day some of the major issues will be resolved, and new or refined mechanics get added into the game, as it should allow for more longevity for such a thriving community.
